DescriptionAEC-70-8737 OAK RIDGE, TENNESSEE. . .MOLECULAR AND CELLULAR LEVEL STUDIES. . .A new analytical system which can greatly increase the precision and number of clinical tests performed in hospitals and laboratories has been developed at the AEC's Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In the device, samples of human fluids are spun by centrifugal force (center of photo) past a beam of light sending a signal to an oscilloscope (at left). The instrument is known as GeMSAEC, an acronym derived from the supporting agencies -- the Rational Institute of General Medical Sciences and the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission. The system is used for molecular genetics studies. Credit: Oak Ridge National Laboratory
