说明AEC-71-9078 PLASMA vortex studies… At Oak Ridge National Laboratory, fluid dynamic experiments have shown that a favourable temperature gradient in a plasms vortex substantially reduces turbulence – and therefore lessens mixing --- within the vortex and that an axial magnetic field inhibits mixing between two concentric streams of different gases at plasms forming temperatures. Photo shows an argon plasma being generated by radiofrequency induction heating within a water-cooled copper tube slitted along its full length to permit penetration of the electrical field. The tube is open to the atmosphere at both ends to permit direct observation of the plasma which nearly fills the 2-inch diameter tube. The peak temperature near the center of the plasma is estimated to be 12,000 K(21,000 F.) or approximately twice that of the soar surface. The studies are related to the fluid dynamics feasibility of ultra-high temperature, gaseous fission reactor concepts. Credit : Oak Ridge National Laboratory
