说明Requests to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria, for technical assistance in the biological and medical applications of activation analysis are expected to increase as research reactors and familiarity with isotope techniques become more wide-spread in the developing countries. To provide the necessary background of experience to support these needs, a programme of thermal neutron activation analysis has been instituted in the Medical Physics Section of the Agency. A first step in the development of this programme has been the setting up of a sophisticated two parameter -ray spectrometer. The electronic part of this was donated to the Agency by the French. Government, the mechanical bench which supports the detectors, the shielding and the source support allowing precision adjustment of the source anddetectors assembly were made at the IAEA's workshop. The physicist in charge is shown as he introduces a sample into the apparatus. The whole assembly represents a new type of gamma spectrometer of much refined sensitivity and selectivity.
