说明AEC-70-8134 ATOMIC RAILROAD -- A string of "well" cars is backed into a chemical processing building at the AEC's Hanford Atomic project in southeastern Washington State. The 150-mile government-owned railroad takes care of the unique transportation tasks associated with a nuclear facility. The "well" cars contain uranium fuel elements which have been irradiated in a reactor and are ready for processing to remove the plutonium manufactured in them. Credit: Battelle-Northwest Laboratory
