Описание(TECH:AFG:AGR:CROP*). RURAL DEVELOPMENT IN AFGHANISTAN. UN 68941 Afghanistan, 1960. The rural development programme in Afghanistan began as a pilot project in two villages in 1954. Subsequently, major projects in health and sanitation, handicrafts and cottage industries, agriculture, and education were initiated by the Government. With the assistance of the UN and its specialized agencies, the development area has been extended to about four hundred villages. In all the projects undertaken, efforts are made to promote the development of local institutions, particularly the village development councils. Grapes are an important crop on the lower mountain slopes in Afghanistan. Here, a cultivator demonstrates grapes on an experimental plot maintained by the Ministry of Agriculture.
