The Andean Indian programme, designed to raise the living standards of the. indigenous populations of the Altiplano region and integrate them into the economic and social life of their respective countries, was extended in I960 to include Colombia and portions of Chile and Argentina, in addition to Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru, where the project had already been underway since 1953. Under the leadership of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) other UN agencies, such as the UN Children's Fund(UNICEF), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the World Health Organization (WHO), are assisting the Governments concerned by. providing advisory services for the programme.
