ОписаниеRadiation Against Harmful Insects. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been helping many countries in the use of nuclear radiation to control insects that destroy food supplies or are harmful to health. The particular technique developed involves the mass rearing of the insect, sterilization of the males by controlled irradiation and their subsequent release over infested areas to mate unproductively with wild females. An outstanding feature is that it is a biological method and presents no hazard to man or any other living organisms. In the photo: Artificial (membrane) feeding of tsetse flies is set up by P.
