ОписаниеPhoto No. ERDA-75-10701 Office of Public Affairs Photo Office WASTE ENCAPSULATION AND STORAGE FACILITY The remote tungsten arc welder programmed to weld the ends onto less steel capsules filled with cesium, and strontium is shown photographed through a three-foot lead glass viewing window at the cesium and strontium encapsulation plant at the Energy Research and Development Administration’s complex. The plant was started up in November 1974 to encapsulate the high heat producing isotopes, cesium and strontium, recovered from Hanford production reactor fuels reprocessing wastes. After the cesium is doubly encapsulated in the stainless-steel cylinders, the entire capsule assembly is checked for integrity and the capsules stored in underwater storage basins in the facility.
