Descripción6466/T,2,15,23. HOME GARDENS AND NUTRITION PROJECT. Dahomey, 1967. Dahmey’s population, already the densest in West Africa, is growing at the rate of to 2.8 per cent per year. With few foreign currency earning resources, she must find food supplies for her own land in the form, chiefly, of maize, sorghum yams and cassava and diminishing supplies of fish. To teach the villagers to grow and use more protein – and vitamin-rich foods, the Freedom for Hunger Campaign of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO/FFHC) has, with Dutch funds, established demonstration gardens and nutrition centre where Dahomean girls are trained as instructresses. Tacking local foods as a basis, they learn how to combine and cook them so as a satisfactory diet. Hosin. Practical demonstration how to prepare food by Bernardette Hounsou, trained instructresses.
