Y-12 Plant prior to shipment to Argonne National Laboratory for use in nuclear reactor experiments. The foil, only .021-inch thick, is one of 34 strips fabricated for the project. The Y-12 Plant, operated by Union Carbide Corporation, Nuclear Division, for the AEC, was selected to perform the job because of the plant's unique facilities for handling enriched uranium.
