DescripciónAEC-71-9073 EFFECT OF ATOM ARRANGEMENT ON FRACTURE. . .Micro-photo, made at the University of Maryland, above the typical fracture surface observed in a disordered iron-cobalt alloy in which the iron and cobalt atoms are arranged in a completely random manner. The disordered arrangement occurs when the alloy is heated; fractures in these alloys occur through the grain interiors in a tearing manner, leaving behind steps which appear as white lines in the figure. This photo was obtained with a scanning electron microscope at a magnification of 2,500X. Credit: University of Maryland
