DescripciónAEC-69-8636 ZERO TIME AT PROJECT MILROW ON AMCHITKA ISLAND, ALASKA, OCTOBER 2, 1969. . .This view of ground zero, at the Atomic Energy Commission's underground nuclear detonation on Amchitka Island in the Aleutian Island Chain in Alaska at H-hour, shows spurts of clear water from a small stream and higher fountains of muddy ground water from beneath the saturated tundra that covers the area. Ground zero is slightly to the left of the large white building. The photograph was taken by a sequential camera mounted about one mile from ground zero. Milrow was an underground calibration test detonated 4,000 feet under the surface of the island. The explosive force was equal to about a megaton of TNT and registered 6.5 on the Richter scale as had been publicly predicted. Credit: USAEC, Nevada Operations Office.
