DescripciónAEC-69-8514 JACKASS FLATS, NEVADA. . .The most powerful nuclear rocket reactor ever developed operates during a high-power test at the Nuclear Rocket Development Station, June 26, 1968. The reactor operated for about 32 minutes, including 12 minutes at power levels of more than 4,000 thermal megawatts (million watts). The slender tower to the extreme left of the reactor exhaust plume is over 400 feet high. In 1968 the technology program leading to an engine for a nuclear-powered rocket was virtually completed, and work has begun on a flight-rated engine. The nuclear rocket program is a joint Atomic Energy Commission-National Aeronautics and Space Administration effort. Credit: Joint AEC-NASA photo
