الوصفAEC-69-8584 AK RIDGE, TENNESSEE. . .MOONBOX. . .An ultraviolet light and a needle-sired vacuum cleaner were used to locate and remove dust particles from an Apollo moonbox at the AEC's Oak Ridge (Tenn.) Y-12 plant. This was one of several operations involved in the decontamination of the lunar sample boxes prior to the Apollo 11 flight. The Y-12 plant, operated by Union Carbide Corporation for the AEC, designed and fabricated the aluminium boxes which were used by the Apollo astronauts to transport geological samples from the moon’s surface to earth.
