الوصفAEC-70-8887 GIANT VESSEL LIFT... This 800-ton alloy steel vessel was hoisted 100-feet up-over-and-down into the reactor building at Commonwealth Edison Company's Quad-Cities nuclear power station. The plant is located near Cordova, Illinois, about 150 miles west of Chicago. Almost seven stories high, the vessel was shipped about 660 miles by barge along the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers from a Babcock and Wilcox plant at Mount Vernon, Indiana. Steam produced in the reactor vessel will spin a turbine-generator. Quad-Cities station will consist of two 809,000 kilowatt nuclear units scheduled for service in 1971 and 1972 respectively. Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company has a one-quarter ownership interest in the two-unit boiling water plant being built by General Electric Company. Credit: Commonwealth Edison Company
