DescriptionThe International Atomic Energy Agency is building a functional laboratory at Seibersdorf near Vienna. The laboratory will serve for the standardization of isotopes and the preparation of radioactive standards,. calibration and adaptation of measuring equipment, quality control of special Materials for nuclear technology, measurements and analysis in Connection with the Agency’s safety programme and services for Member States. The laboratory site, situated in the vicinity of the Austrian research reactor and other installations of the Oesterreichische Studiengesellschaft fuer Atomenergie (S.G.A.E.) allows for the closest possible co-operation between the Agency’s scientists and those of the Austrian atomic energy laboratories; their work will thus become complementary and exclude all possible duplication of effort. The United States have donated $600,000 against cost of construction. and equipment; besides valuable donations from the Governments of France, the Netherlands and Yugoslavia were received. It is hoped that the laboratory will be ready early in 1961. IAEA/Sept. 1960/No. 745B. Please credit IAEA
