DescriptionAEC-68-8467 As tall as a 7-story building and weighing 800 tons, the reactor vessel for Dresden 2, a new 809,000-kilowatt generating unit under construction at Commonwealth Edison Company's nuclear power station near Morris, Illinois, was installed over the weekend (12-9-68). General Electric Company, the prime contractor on the project, supervised the lift of the huge nuclear furnace into the reactor building. Dresden 2 is scheduled for service in 1969 and an identical 809,000-kilowatt unit, Dresden 3, is being built for service in 1970. When both units are completed, the Edison plant will be the largest nuclear power station in the country. Credit: Commonwealth Edison Company
